Help on ideas on what to do to make a forum sucessful
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to attract people to your forum? You see my forum first started off with the sole purpose of making fan comic books, but it soon evolved into a proper forum. Recently a few members have disappeared and the pressence has been unlacking. So what I want to know from y'all if you could answer the following questions for me:
1. On the forums you post on do you perfer more order and organization, or more of a free relaxying, laid back place?
2.Do you post on forums that have sites with lots of info on series?
3. Any other comments that you'd like to add about what attracts you to posting on certain forums.
Thanks in advance, it'll really help me a lot!
Also have I missed much in my absence?

I am assuming you means Forums and youre not including blogs :)
The only Forums I have ever joined were:
my guild forums for SWG
I was in 2 guilds and we went to the forums to exend info etc... I also did a newspaper with a gossip column.
When I left the Guild I stayed with the forum but eventually left esp since I had stopped playing SWG
I am still a memember of my Tarantula form I post and go there when I need info
other wise I leave forums alone

This isn't about any forums, but what happened to your other blog? The one where you talked about trying to become a comic book writer? I was hoping you would write more in that.
Just wondering...

Thanks guys, you are correct, I'm not including blogs I meant forums. My staff and I have a few ideas we came up with after I posted the surevy, so hopefully that'll work.
As for my other blog I got a little discouraged after I just got some negative feedback. I did plan on continuing, but I've been writing a script to submit to a compnay, so that's taken up some time. Once I start updating it again, I'll post it on Deadpool's blog. Thanks for the interested :)

That's a hard question to answer. One key thing is to make sure that people who would be interested in your forum know about it. I assume your key demographic would be comic book fans. To find them you would have to go to comic fan sites and either post messages on their boards linking to your forum or asking them to add a hotlink to you.
And as far as what I look for in a forum, I do prefer organization. I don't like forums that have a lot of over-lapping sections because then people would read posted comments might miss them. Keeping things focused can make it easier to navigate.
You can also make sure you post a lot in your forums on a daily basis, making interesting comments or asking questions to spark dialogues. Those are the things that make a forum interesting to me anyway.

Like Professor X, I prefer easy navigation. In fact, that's probably most important to me.
As far as organization, I think you have to strike a balance. People will get frustrated if it's either too loose and unmoderated, or too strict and confining.
As far as negative feedback on your blog, don't let the jerks get you down. Early on, trolls posted a couple of negative comments on the Yoda blog. I chose not to focus on their negativity.

OOC I agree with Yoda on this...
There is a difference between constructive critic and negetive..
constructive critic: Not only points at the finer and best qualities of your blog but then list a few ways you can improve your blog
for example: I got this when I did the newspaper for my guild:
Novy your writing is great you are very imaginitive I love reading your stories and watching how you role play and turn in game graphic errors
into a story... there are some things that I feel need work...
first you always use full sized pictures. like me I am sure many have a slow computer as I said earlier I love the pictures but my computer cant handel so many at full size... others I am sure have the same problem perhaps you could try using thumbnails and then linking to the fullsize picture
also I dont like your color scheme, you have a black background with red font which is hard on the eyes
I am not sure you are aware of this but people who are colorblind would not be able to read it. I would suggest always use a light back ground and dark font or a dark background and light font and stay away from reds .. just some suggestions .. keep up the work
see that is constructive someone is offering advice and is being polite
negeative critc is : hey man your blog suxs
In your mind hit the delete button
I get these and I am like
first of all what suxs and why and how whould I improve and is there anything that is good because if not then perhaps the problem is personal taste and the solution is move along
I will keep writing for my blog fans you find something that suits you
--- see Deadpool what I am trying to say... I know it is frustrating but you cant please everyone ...
so please yourself... because if you dont please yourself it isnt worth doing it

the new jerk on my blog has his some weird language and speaks in third person so remember ot could always be worse
12:44 AM
Thanks everyone!
